Unbound: Unbound

After sitting down to 'compose' songs and not coming up with anything that excited us for sometime, 'Unbound' is the song that just happened. It all started with Sashi's first guitar chords and from there every little thing fell into place.

It was around that time that one of Phenom's closest friends showed us a poem she had written about some phase she was going through in life. Kavita's poem, 'The Unbound', had just the right words for the music that we had set. Clearing up all confusion about the reference to 'her' in the song, this song is about Kavita and her 'never say die' attitude.

Imagine yourself pondering about life and all its intricate mysteries and let the song take you from there and wake you up with a jolt and fill you with much renewed vigour !

This song is very special to us, not just because of the background, but because of the way it developed into what one of our friends called a "Magnum Operus" - it builds to an unbelievable crescendo that makes Mrinal's hair stand up everytime we perform it. The interplay between Sashi's guitar and JD's keyboard magic is what defines our sound, our music and Phenom.

If you have seen us perform on stage, you will find that this version is slightly different at the end - a little shorter. In the live version, we add an extra "twist" at the end that usually brings the house down. But to hear it, you'll have to come an hear us play it! :)

"Unbound" is a great song, even if we must say so ourselves, and there was never a question that it would be (and is) the title track of our first album.

It was recorded at PBS, as was the rest of our album. Our sound engineer was DC, and if you think the recording quality and mix sound great, you know whom we have to thank!

If you have any comments, please let us know, we'd love to hear from you!

We hope you enjoy "Unbound"!
